Leverett House has several dining rooms, common rooms, and other facilities that can be reserved or rented for academic, recreational and cultural activities by Leverett residents. Events longer than 2 hours (or 3 hours in the Library Theater) require special approval. In general, rooms cannot be reserved for repeated events because their purpose is to support a wide diversity of activities.

Junior Common Room

Located off the main lobby, the JCR is for informal gatherings of students. It includes comfortable furniture and a grand piano. Although private events are discouraged, we are very interested in ideas for House-wide events to expand the usage of the JCR. If you have an idea, please let us know (See JCR Activity Proposal Instructions).

The JCR is not generally available for reservation for student events.

Senior Common Room

The Senior Common Room in Harvard Houses is traditionally a space for formal events hosted by the Faculty Deans for the Senior Common Room members, faculty members and other professionals from the Harvard community.

The SCR can be reserved by Resident Tutors, the Resident Dean and Faculty Deans. Students requiring private meeting spaces are able to reserve the Janulis Room, Bren Room or G-Hutch for bigger groups. The library theatre is also available for room reservations.

We would also like to encourage all of you to make use of the many other public spaces in Leverett including the library, the rabbit hole, and the common rooms in entryways.

The F-Hutch

The F-Hutch is located on the first floor of F Tower. There is a large screen television, vending machines, and areas for rest and relaxation. The F-Hutch cannot be reserved by student organizations. The Leverett House Library

During the academic year, the Library is open 24 hours for studying. Please note that the collections in the Leverett Library are non-circulating. The on-line catalogue of the Harvard Libraries, HOLLIS, can be accessed from a computer in the Library.

Food and drinks (other than bottled water) are not allowed in the Library. There is a water fountain in the hallway as you enter. Food and beverages are only permitted in the Library Reading Room (L9) which is open for all students and located to the left before going up the main stairs to the Library.

There is a photocopy machine in the hallway as you enter the Library. Copies may be made using Crimson Cash.

Please contact if the copy machine is not working properly or if you have any questions about the Library.

The Leverett House Library is not generally available for reservation for student events.

Library Theater

The Library Theater is a large room located down a stairway near the entrance to McKinlock from Mill Street. The Library Theater is ideal for group meetings, rehearsals, performances, and other events. The Library Theater is equipped with a projector, screen, and window shades, all of which are easy to control from an AV panel (Library Theater AV panel guide) located at the bottom of the stairs. No posting or affixing of materials to the walls is permitted.

In general, theater groups will not have exclusive use of the space during the days of their practices/performances. These groups can reserve the space for a few hours a day, but other groups may use it at other times, so theater groups must plan to put away any valuable, dangerous or otherwise inappropriate setups after each use.

Historically used as a small theater primarily for plays and performances, it is also appropriate for meetings and rehearsals, particularly of groups too large to fit in the House's other reservable spaces or those that need lots of space to move around. Events expecting fewer than 20 people should request smaller spaces. Seating consists of folding chairs, which may need to be set up at the beginning of your event.

If you plan to serve alcohol at your event, you will need to secure approval from the Office of Student Life (OSL). Please provide at least 2-3 weeks advance notice to obtain OSL approval and contact should you have any questions.

The Library Theater may be reserved up to one week in advance through the automated room reservation system. It is also possible to reserve the Library Theater on weekends under certain circumstances; to inquire about a weekend event, please contact the Faculty Deans. Please see here for more guidelines and regulations regarding use of the Library Theater space.
