Apply to be a Non-Resident Tutor (NRT)

Non-resident tutors (NRTs) are valued members of Leverett House who advise students and contribute to our vibrant community. Most non-resident tutors work closely with one or more of the house committees (pre-med, pre-law, fellowships, STEM, etc.) to enrich and serve the house community. They use their personal and professional expertise to support students throughout their experience at the College. Non-resident tutors are encouraged to visit the house regularly, take meals with students in the dining hall, and attend house events.

To facilitate this experience, non-resident tutors receive access to our house,including 5 meals a week to be shared with students in the Leverett dining hall. We also invite non-resident tutors to open houses, athletic events, concerts, and other activities in the house. Photos and bios of non-resident tutors will be featured on the house website.

We look for non-resident tutors to fulfill expectations set forth by their respective committees and fulfill student needs as they arise. These may include meeting individually with students, staffing informational events, and writing letters of recommendation. As officers of the university, non-resident tutors are also responsible for ensuring our students’ health and well-being by:

– Communicating concerns about individual students to the resident dean;

– Maintaining confidentiality around sensitive student information, including letters of recommendation;

– Avoiding the engagement, or even the appearance, of romantic involvement with undergraduates in the house.

Prospective non-resident tutors are encouraged to apply via the link below. House staff will review the applications prior to the start of each semester. Applicants may be invited for a brief conversation with members of the house before a decision is made.

Non-resident tutor appointments are for one academic year. Decisions on re-appointment are generally made in the late spring or summer, depending on a tutor’s contributions and the needs of the house.
